NFL Week 12: Waking up in Second Place

Welcome back, guys! Hope you all had a very happy Thanksgiving celebration with your families, friends, and significant others. I enjoyed spending time with my family, although it meant only 20 actual minutes of anything even close to being football related. The fam isn't into football. I know, I'm the odd duck in the bunch, but our Thursday viewing was dedicated to a non-stop comedy movie marathon consisting of Bad Moms, Central Intelligence, and Deadpool.  Not a bad way to spend a Thursday, but I missed the football, and Aretha's national anthem.

It is not a dream. The Dallas Cowboys have the best record in the NFL. I know, right?  Is there anyone more insufferable than a Dallas fan when they are winning?  Yeah, a Lakers fan, but I digress. The Boys have surprised a lot of people dominating their division and conference with a rookie quarterback-Dak Prescott. It's hard not to root for Prescott, but you guys know my feelings about the boys. Rooting for Dak, but against those boys. It's what I do.  Seriously, it physically hurts to say nice things about the Cowboys and the Raiders.

I don't know what is going on with Green Bay and Kansas City. My Chiefs had no business losing that game to Tampa Bay on Sunday. NONE!!! I will give Tampa Bay their props. They are a decent team, but the Chiefs are better than what they put on the field Sunday. Even with the injuries, there is no way they are Super Bowl bound losing games like this. They fell from first place to second place (barely) and will now face the Broncos in Denver tonight on national television. The Chiefs, sigh, are not good on national television. Maybe it's me. Nah, it's not me. A big shoutout to one of my favorite Chiefs' blogs ArrowheadPride.com, who pointed out that since 2004, the Chiefs are 10-18 on national television. They lost their first national televised game in that abomination against the Steelers early this season. They are scheduled for two national televised games, one against Oakland on December 8, and the other against Denver on Christmas Day.  I regret to say have no hopes for either of those games. Wow, they are doing the Who's got the Edge segment on the Chiefs/Broncos. Tony Gonzalez is picking this game. Sigh...Chiefs are going to lose.

Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers, smh, I am just as surprised as anyone that Green Bay is so infuriating this year. The Packer fans are blaming Olivia Munn for Jessica Simpsoning the Pack, while even legit sports sites are citing a rift in the Rodgers family (also blamed on Aaron's girlfriend Olivia) for causing Aaron's problems on the field.  Whatever the problem, Green Bay is going to find themselves buying tickets to the playoffs if they don't solve this problem.

Well, to the task at hand, last week was a good week.  I once again improved my record with a 12-4 showing thanks  in part to my 3-0 Thanksgiving day picks.  The old record ticked up to 102-61 for the season.  My fantasy teams:  Lucille Swings is still in first place with a 9-2 record, while Lochte and Loaded dropped its second game in two weeks dropping to fourth place. Lochte and Loaded is such a dumpster fire, that the most exciting thing happening this week is that I was able to swing getting Matt Bryant back as my kicker. No byes this week with three teams playing on Thursday.

For better or worse, my picks, ladies and gentlemen. Before I leave, I would like to bid a fond farewell to two actors we lost over the break-Florence Henderson and Ron Glass. They both entertained us for decades and will be sorely missed. Until next time, "To help yourself, you must be yourself. Be the best that you can be. NFL Week 12: Do We Have Any Starters Left?

Welcome to Week 12 of the NFL Season! I hope you have all recovered from your turkey comas, and the 900 variations on turkey we've had since Thursday. This NFL season has been a pill when it comes to keeping players healthy. Two weeks after returning to Cowboys, Tony Romo is out for the year with a collarbone injury. Injuries are taking a toll on practically every team. You can field an all-star team with the number of people out for the year--Tony Romo, Joe Flacco, Colin Kaepernick, Steve Smith, Reggie Bush, Le'Veon Bell, Jamaal Charles, Victor Cruz, Arian Foster, Devin Hester, and the list goes on. Then you have the list of the walking wounded like Ben Roethlisberger, Andrew Luck, and Peyton Manning.

The good news for fantasy players is that the bye weeks are finally behind us; the bad news is trying to salvage enough players to make a starting line up. I've lost two starting running backs this season. My Just Gonzo current lineup includes: Tom Brady (so I really shouldn't complain), Spencer Ware, Todd Gurley, Larry Fitzgerald, Chris Harper, Travis Kelce, Jeremy Maclin, Cairo Santos, and the Denver Defense. Brady and Santos have been the only dependable people on this list. This year I lost Le'Veon Bell, replaced him with Charcandrick West (who probably will not play this week), dropped Peyton Manning and Golden Tate, benched Frank Gore and Danny Amendola. Today, I play one of the best teams in my fantasy league. Wish me luck, y'all.

As I mentioned the bye weeks are over, and the fantasy playoffs are approaching. Let's hope we have enough players left to make it to the finish line. With the Thanksgiving games included, I had a year's best 12-4 record bringing my total to 90-58 on the year. I tell you, picking games has been a crapshoot all year. You never know with the way some of these teams are playing. So, fingers crossed...

NFL Week 12 Picks...

Happy After Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Pre-Cyber Monday, everybody!!!  Did you survive the sales? I did as I don't partake in the shopping craze that is Black Friday, and I am still recovering from Thursday. Thanks to a change in weather, I don't feel much like myself.  Ah, que sera, sera...

I went 3-0 on Turkey Day!!! I actually got to see maybe 5 minutes of any of the games.  1) because 90% of my family are women, and they don't do sports, 2) every five minutes I was called into duty to perform some menial task, and 3) our local Fox affiliate didn't have sound for the entirety of the Cowboys/Redskins game.  As much as I dislike Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, a game with no sound is horrible and boring...Kinda like watching a Chiefs game...

So, this week the bye weeks end, the the quest for the playoffs and for the first pick begins...In the AFC, New England, Houston, Baltimore, and Denver are sitting atop their divisions with Pittsburgh and, surprisingly, the Indianapolis Colts are in the hunt for the Wildcards.  While in the NFC, Atlanta, New York, San Francisco, and atop their divisions with Chicago and Green Bay tied atop the North.  Tampa Bay and Seattle are currently in the lead for the second Wildcard spot.  Who will win out?  Only time will tell.  Meanwhile, in basement dweller news, the Chiefs and the Jaguars are in a fierce battle for the first draft pick.  Hey, Chiefs fans have to root for something.

On to the picks, with my perfect Turkey Day, my record for the season 100-61.  So for Sunday my predictions are for the following:

Sunday, November 25
Minnesota Vikings vs. Chicago Bears:  Chicago
Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers:  Atlanta
Seattle Seahawks vs. Miami Dolphins:  Seattle

Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs:  Denver
Buffalo Bills vs. Indianapolis Colts:  Indianapolis
Pittsburgh Steelers vs.@ Cleveland Browns:  Pittsburgh
Oakland Raiders vs. Cincinnati Bengals:  Cincinnati
Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars:  Tennessee

Baltimore Ravens vs. San Diego Chargers:  Baltimore
San Francisco 49ers vs. New Orleans Saints:  San Francisco
St. Louis Rams vs. Arizona Cardinals:  Arizona

Green Bay Packers vs. New York Giants:  Green Bay

Monday, November 26
Carolina Panthers vs. Philadelphia Eagles:  Carolina

Monday, November 26
New Orleans Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons:  A double dose of Tony Gonzalez and Jimmy Graham this week?  Yes and please.  I'm picking Atlanta in this rematch of the Tight End Heavyweights.  FYI:  Happy 26th Birthday to my second favorite tight end, Jimmy Graham!!!
That's all I've got this week guys.  Until next week, "If at first you don't succeed, you're running about average."~M.H. Alderson
