NFL Week One: Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler!!!

Welcome back, everybody!!! I know that I haven't posted since the 20th Anniversary of the Harry Potter series. Still a little rusty. Plus, I've started a new job for the second time in two years. Why? I'm a mess mostly, but I've also started working at a college which is sooooooo much more awesome!!!

This is the eighth year that I have been writing about a lot of unnecessary stuff. Much like last year, I'll not only be posting about the NFL, but I will be here to live blog my favorites The Walking Dead and Stranger Things.  I'm not one hundred percent certain that I will make it through the entire season of American Horror Story: Cult. I'm starting to lose interest in the series. For now let's talk about the NFL.

The biggest story in the NFL this off season was not so much who moved where, who drafted whom, nor who will be suspended again this season. Nope, the biggest story since last preseason has and continues to be Colin Kaepernick, but I'm not discussing this here today. I will devote another post to that issue.

There are a host of new head coaches hoping to take their teams in a new direction. You have Vance Joseph in Denver, Anthony Lynn in Los Angeles (Chargers), Doug Marrone in Jacksonville, Sean McDermott in Buffalo, Sean McVay in Los Angeles (Rams), and Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco. You have many new faces in new places among the player rankings, too. Brandon Cooks showed his value on opening night as he starts his career in New England. After many years with Minnesota, Adrian Peterson is banking on showing he still has gas in New Orleans. Fans as well as Jeremy Maclin were shocked when the Chiefs released the veteran receiver, but he found a new home in Baltimore. Marshawn Lynch is trying to help his hometown Raiders rise to the top of the AFC West. Victor Cruz left the East Coast for the midwest with a new start in Chicago. Not to mention, Jay Cutler's brief retirement before heading to Miami after Ryan Tannehill went down with an injury. Even former players made some moves in the offseason. Tony Romo is moving to the CBS broadcast booth pushing Phil Simms to the NFL Today who also hired Nate Burleson to replace Bart Scott who was let go. Tony Gonzalez left CBS for FOX who will be joined by Michael Vick. Steve Smith is headed to the NFL Network.

Did you see opening night? DID YOU SEE WHAT MY CHIEFS DID TO THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS ON OPENING NIGHT? I didn't write this post earlier because I didn't want to jinx my boys, but was that an opening night or what? That debut of Kareem Hunt! If you had taken a shot every time Cris Collinsworth reminded us that he fumbled on his first play, you would have been drunk by halftime, but way to go Kareem in overcoming that bumpy start! Also, Alex Smith showing us all his deep ball threat. Patrick Mahomes may be the future, but Alex showed that he is the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. You'll get your chance rookie, but not this year. The only bad news from the game was the loss of Pro Bowl Safety Eric Berry. Best Wishes, EB, we will you back next season.

So, the Patriots began the season with undefeated hopes, which were dashed by the Kansas City Chiefs, but I have no doubt that the Pats and Brady will be making their annual appearance in the post season. Atlanta, what in the world happened to y'all in the Super Bowl? So, who am I picking this year. My annual mistakes that's what. Here we go...

NFL Predictions Sure to Bite the Dust: 2016 Edition

Welcome, welcome, welcome!!!!! It is right around the corner ladies and gentleman! After months and months of not always patiently waiting, the 2016 NFL Season is upon us!! Game one is tomorrow night with a Super Bowl rematch between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. Now, there is no secret that I have nothing but animosity for both of these teams, but I hate the Broncs more sooooo, GO PANTHERS!!!!

So what's in the news: Tony Romo received his annual injury during pre-season, Tom Brady is suspended (smiles), Peyton Manning is retired (smiles), Drew Brees is attached to the Saints for another year with a guaranteed $44.25 million, nice work if you can get it.

Peyton Manning has finally ended his reign of terror over my beloved Chiefs. Now, he will just terrorize us with the endless stream of Directv Commercials (shame on you, Lionel Richie). With Peyton starting his acting career and Brock Osweiler in Houston, the Broncos will be helmed by Trevor Siemian who basically held Peyton's clipboard for the past two seasons. Good luck, kid! Ans by luck, I mean, I hope you suck every bit as bad as Peyton was good. (Yeah, I still hate the Broncos. Sorry...not sorry.)

The Dallas Cowboys, a team I have nothing but disdain for, is starting the season with their Captain on the disabled list...again. Seriously, the only thing holding Tony Romo together at this point is dental floss and duct tape. You can give this guy the side-eye, and he will collapse. As a result of Tony Romo annual collapse, the Boys will be starting Dak Prescott. While I'm not a fan of Mississippi State, I root for anyone who represents my home state (except Brett Favre, because forget Brett Favre). Now, I'm not going to be rooting for the Cowboys, but this young man has multiple college records and Mississippi State records under his belt. While that did not bode well for Tim Tebow, per se, (FYI, really Mets, really!!???), I'm looking for good things from young Mr. Prescott.  Good luck, young man, may your stats be great, and the Cowboys lose every game. (Yes, I know, I am petty.)

Tom Brady is suspended...

Colin Kaepernick, of course, has been the topic of conversation for the last two weeks. I haven't said a lot about this, but here is my two cents. Colin Kaepernick has every right to do whatever he wishes to do during the National Anthem. Our behavior during the National Anthem is a courtesy. It is not a requirement nor a law for a citizen to stand nor honor. I have classmates who would neither stand for the Pledge nor the anthem because according to their religion they felt that it was  form of idolatry. There are many problems that our country needs to resolve, and police brutality is a problem we should all want to be eliminated. This is what he is protesting. Racism is still a problem that is deeply rooted in America. This is what he is protesting. I don't care if you don't like it. It's his right, and I support him. As the great Mississippi Nobel Prize Winning writer William Faulkner once said, "Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world...would do this, it would change the earth." FYI, where were y'all's protest when Bruce Miller beat up a 70 year old man? I'm not saying, I'm just saying. P.S. that anthem really wasn't written for the black people...just facts folks...

I drafted my fantasy team last night. Team Lucille Swings consists of Cam Newton, Dez Bryant, Jeremy Maclin, Larry Fitzgerald, Adrian Peterson, Spencer Ware, and Travis Kelce. I should have probably called them the Golden Boys....

Last year, I finished the season with a 144-97 prediction record. Pray for me y'all...Here are my predictions sure to fail. There is no rhyme or reason to these choices...Just laugh your way through them like I will do in January...

Super Bowl 50 Edition

Happy Super Bowl 50, everybody!!! It may be clichéd, but it really all comes down to this: The Denver Broncos and The Carolina Panthers play for the Lombardi trophy. As a kid growing up as a 49ers fans, I watched my favorite quarterback Joe Montana win four Super Bowls. While as a Chiefs fan, well, I'm just happy they finally got past the second round this year.


The Carolina Panthers have been the best team in the NFL all year, while the Denver Broncos have had rather a shaky season before taking the AFC. FYI, congratulations to Cam Newton who was named NFL MVP and Ron Rivera who was named Coach of the Year.


It's the Youngster Cam Newton vs. the Sheriff Peyton Manning. Many people have been quoted as saying that this may be Peyton's last game. If so, it will be the end of one of the greatest careers in the NFL. Win or lose, Peyton Manning is a terrific quarterback. So, he doesn't have a slew of rings like Brady and Montana, neither did Jim Kelly, neither did Dan Marino, and heck Bret Favre only won one. I, for one, do not rely solely on Super Bowl rings. You need a whole team to win a Super Bowl. All parts matter, otherwise, Tom Brady would be here today defending his title.


Cam Newton is only five years old, and now, he is in the Super Bowl. I've not been a Cam Newton fan. Why? Because when I watch college sports I'm an LSU fan, so there is that. When I watch or care about the NFC, I'm usually watching the Saints or 49ers, so there is that. Yet, with all of his detractors, here he is. He has supported his teammates, and he has made his fans a part of the game. It's really hard not to root for Cam, especially since I'm petty as hell and hate the Broncos.


Now, my final NFL pick of the season: the Denver Broncos vs. The Carolina Panthers. Cam and his offense have been awesome this year, while the Broncos defense has been amazing. I know, they were my defense this year during my fantasy season. Be that as it may, I'm going with Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. Now, watch Pey-Pey make me eat my words.


It's been a great season guys! Enjoy the Super Bowl!!!! It should be a great game regardless of the outcome!

NFL Conference Championship Weekend...Stage 4

Welcome to Championship Weekend, ladies and gents. Yeah, no exclamation point because neither team that I picked for the Super Bowl is left in the dance. My Chiefs will once again not lift the Lamar Hunt trophy in victory. Sigh...I really cannot stand Tom Brady and the Patriots. I figure in my fandom stages of grief that I'm at Stage four-depression and reflection. Oh, how this could have been such a great story to look back upon if my Chiefs had been able to lift that Super Bowl trophy in San Francisco with Joe Montana handing the trophy to Andy Reid. Alas, it is not to be...

Instead, we are watching Brady vs. Manning XVII. The AFC Championship will once again involve Tom Brady and the Patriots and Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. During any other time in his storied career, this Chiefs fan, who lost a fair share of playoff games to Pey-Pey and the Colts, would root for Peyton Manning against the Emperor and Darth Vader. No, no...I like Darth Vader, and I'm not going to compare Brady to Vader. Vader, at least had some redeeming qualities. Belichick and Brady are more...Sauron and Saruman...yeah...just evil..., I apologize for the nerd digression. I could go into stats about who has won more, yards, blah, blah, blah, but truth be told, I wish both teams could fall into a large hole like the aforementioned villains, while all of their opponents cheered like the men of the West. As I said earlier, I would usually root for Peyton, but since he joined the Broncos, that so is not going to happen. In a game I absolutely care nothing about, I believe the Pats will win, again. Yeah, the hate is strong in this one...


I would like to say I care about the NFC championship game, but truth be told, I don't. I really don't. I have no feelings about either of these teams. I don't hate them, I don't root for them, I truly don't care about either of these teams. Yes, they have performed extraordinarily well this year. they have fought off the Packers and the Seahawks, and everybody else. They have been the best teams all year, and they both deserve to be here. I like Cam Newton somewhat, and I like Larry Fitzgerald somewhat. What do you want from me? They aren't Tony Gonzalez, so yeah, I'm not fawning over either. (Let's Face it, I'm strictly an AFC girl, and I only watched the NFC because the Chiefs saw fit to ship Tony G to the Falcons, and the Saints are pretty much the home team of my home town.) I have not dog in this fight, so I'm picking Carolina. They have been the best all year, and it would warm my cold heart to have Cam Newton flex a dab in Tom Brady's smug mug at the end of the Super Bowl.

NFL Divisional Playoffs 2016

Welcome, welcome, welcome! Happy Divisional Playoffs, and may the odds be ever in your favor! And then there were eight...the divisional round of the NFL playoffs begins today, and for the first time in a long time my Chiefs are still standing! Now, I'm not going to get excited because the Chiefs drew the Patriots in Foxborough. Sigh...


Before we get to the games, the coaching carousal has begun. Chip Kelley leaves the East coast for the West coast taking the 49ers head coaching job. Hue Jackson has landed in Cleveland, Adam Gase is the newbie in Miami, Dirk Koetter is replacing Lovie Smith in Tampa Bay, and Ben McAdoo is headed to Jersey to coach the Giants. There is the all but the signing on the dotted line of Chiefs' offensive coordinator Doug Pederson headed to Philadelphia.


To the games. Last week, I went 3-1. I wanted to pick Green Bay, but honestly, they have had some sketchy play recently.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots-Sigh, I really, really want to pick the Chiefs. Every body knows Tom Brady and Belichick have been formidable opponents for everyone for years. It frightens me when everyone picks my Chiefs. So, I'm going way out on a limb here picking my Chiefs to win. Please, please, please...*fingers crossed*


Green Bay Packers vs. Arizona Cardinals-Remember when I picked the Pack to go to the Super Bowl, but not to win last week. That hasn't changed. Now, look I know that Seattle drop-kicked the Cards in the mouth in their last game, and Green Bay showed a spark last week against Washington. Flipping a coin...Green Bay. Of course, Arizona will prove me wrong.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Carolina Panthers-I'm not going to even pretend to dwell here. I'm picking Carolina. I hated every moment of that Seattle/Minnesota game, and while Seattle has shown sparks of greatness this year, I believe Carolina is the better team.


Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Denver Broncos-My sister is one of those weirdo fans who has two favorite teams in the same conference. These are her two teams. Pittsburgh is playing with multiple injuries after that MMA game they played with Cincinnati last week.  Denver has rallied around the returning Peyton Manning. Sigh, makes me sick to say...Denver.


This past week, we lost two giants in the entertainment industry David Bowie and Alan Rickman. I was a fan of both-David Bowie, because of his music and his willingness to be the weirdest person imaginable thus making your feel comfortable in your own skin, and Alan Rickman, because he made you believe he was every character he ever played, and how I loved his bad guys, especially Severus Snape. NFL Week 15: What We Know is that We Know Nothing...

Hey everybody! Happy Holidays! For me, happy Christmas break! Woo-Hoo! I have been noticeable quiet about my Kansas City Chiefs. I intend to stay that way. You have to understand that I have been a Chiefs fan for a long, LONG time, and they have had a history of disappointing me on numerous occasions. I will enjoy, but I will not brag or thump my chest about it.

The injury bug has continued to sprinkle his evilness throughout the NFL. I can't be the only person pulling out the team roster to recognize the players on the field. The NFL Postseason is going to be awful interesting, and the Pro Bowl is going to be a bunch of people most of us never heard of in August. If nobody watched the Pro Bowl before, they sure won't this year. (For the record, I only watched when one of my favorites played anyway, i.e the Chiefs, Tony Gonzalez, Jerry Rice, or Joe Montana).

Super Bowl 50 is now 49 days away. Most of us think that all signs point to a Carolina/New England Super Bowl, but do they really?  Yet, to quote Jim Mora himself, "You think you know, but you don't know, and you never will, okay?" Just take a look at last week. There was no way you would have me believe that Indianapolis, San Francisco, Detroit, Denver, and Buffalo would have lost last week, but see, wrong. Carolina and New England should be the Super Bowl, but you never know when an upstart team will upset a sure thing...see Ronda Rousey...


As a result, last week was my worse pick week this year with a lousy 7-10 record which brings my record thus far to 116-79. I would love to say that this week I will do much better, but you know what, I probably won't. Good luck in your fantasy playoff with whoever you can pick up to take the place of the backups you are already using...

NFL Week 13: Raider Week

Welcome back, everybody! I'm still recovering for a couple of reasons this week. Number One: that train-wreck of a mid-season finale for The Walking Dead. I was really unimpressed with that. No Daryl, Sasha, or Abraham, Morgan's stupidity, and Sam...ugh...Sam, but I digress. The other is the surge that has taken place in Kansas City. My Chiefs began the year with a 1-5 record, and then proceeded to lose Jamaal Charles and all hope of the playoffs. Yet, here they are--the Chiefs are on a 5 game win streak, and they have jumped over San Diego and Oakland and are now in second place in the AFC West, and potentially a wild card spot. I have been eating crow for a while now, because you guys will recall that I picked the Packers and the Chiefs for Super Bowl 50. I know, I know that people laugh, but you know what it is still a possibility. The Chiefs end the season with one of the softest schedules having to face the Raiders twice, the Chargers, Cleveland, and Baltimore.

The Raiders scare me the most. Why? Because that team is so freaking unpredictable. They looked really good at the beginning of the year, and now...who knows. I always know that this will be a knock down drag out dog fight regardless, because the Chiefs and the Raiders hate each other. HATE EACH other, and they play each other hard even when there is nothing is on the line. Now, each is an obstacle in the other's playoff chances. I expect nothing short of insanity and no less than 100 penalties during the course of the games--most of which will probably be against Oakland.

The Patriots' were finally defeated by Denver in overtime by Pey-Pey's back-up. So, Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers are the last team standing.  Who saw that back on week 1? Aaron Rodgers threw a hail Mary pass to defeat the Lions in the last seconds of the game Thursday night. Atlanta continued its freefall, as did the New Orleans Saints. This season may be the last we see of Sean Payton and Drew Brees in the Quarter.  Speaking of losing, Just Gonzo, my fantasy team, lost last week for the first time in 5 weeks by a mere 1.74 points. My feelings are still hurt, much like Deanna after that bite.

Last week, I was a better than average with a 9-5 record, bringing my total to 99-63. I have high hopes for both my picks and my fantasy team as the fantasy season heads into its playoffs.

Shout out to blog favorite Tony Gonzalez who was named to the Pac-12 All-Century Team! Just another honor for the future Hall of Famer. FYI, Doug Gottlieb pointed out that the Chiefs have been winning ever since Gonzalez was honored as the featured drummer at the Chiefs home game on October 25. NFL Week 12: Thanksgiving Day Picks

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Here's hoping your day is filled with the blessings of family, friends, and lots and lots of turkey!!! Oh, no I did not forget, FOOTBALL!!! It is one of the many things I'm looking forward to today. You know besides the turkey, ham, pie, cake, yams, pie, peas, dressing, potatoes, gravy, pie, and did I mention pie? It also helps me to avoid those pesky why aren't you married with children questions, because I really hope I can make it through Thanksgiving without having to have a clapback.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I start the day refusing any type of food until dinner is served. It's a matter of control, so I can rest my self-control later. See, there is a method to my madness, but onto the matter at hand.

The NFL has seen fit to give us another three game special, so we have to spend as little time as possible discussing religion, politics, and gossip--three courses always served at the table. Don't forget that you have to set your fantasy team today before the games begin if you have any players on today's teams.

Carolina Panthers at Dallas Cowboys: Carolina-Romo's back, and the Boys always perform well at home on Thanksgiving, but Cam and the Panthers are going to be a tough out. Besides, y'all know I hate the Cowboys. I want Cam to beat them.

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers: Green Bay-They are retiring lord Favre's jersey tonight at halftime, and the Bears are, well, the Bears. I expect a tough game with the Pack and Rodgers coming out on top.

Divisional Playoff Weekend Picks

I am thoroughly depressed. I realize that it has been over a week since Wildcard Weekend, but I'm still bitter about the Chiefs loss to the Colts.  The Chiefs' bad omens began in the first half when they loss running back Jamaal Charles to a concussion.  Most people, including myself, now saw 1/3 of the Chief offense sitting on the bench, but Alex Smith didn't see it that way and gave every Chiefs fan a false sense of hope by jumping out to a 38-10 lead. Chiefs' fans were ecstatic!  We were 30 minutes away from seeing our beloved Chiefs end a 20 year playoff drought, but alas, it was not to be.  The 28 point lead disappeared along with injuries to five more players.  Andrew Luck and the Colts stabbed Chiefs fans in the heart with a one point 44-45 victory.  Sickening...just...sickening.

The other games provided just as much excitement, not San Diego and Cincinnati, but the Saints, Chargers, and 49ers are now moving on to the Divisional rounds to take on the teams who were relaxing during their bye weeks.  My picks were a mediocre 2-2 thanks to Kansas City and Green Bay where the wheels fell off of the band wagons...

New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks
In a rematch of their Week 13 meeting, the Saints travel to Seattle to try to avenge the 34-7 drumming at the hands of the Saints.  I want to pick the Saints, but I think Russell Wilson and the 12th man will be too much-Seahawks

Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots

This is the only game in which the teams did not play this year.  Me thinks young Mr. Luck's fortunes may not fall his way today at Gillette-Patriots

San Francisco 49ers at Carolina Panthers

Young guns Colin Kaepernick and Cam Newton will battle for the second time this season.  The week 10 game saw the Panthers topping the 49er at Candlestick. I'm looking for a repeat of that game (hopefully with a better score)-Panthers

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos

Philip Rivers and the Bolos, I mean, the Bolts are traveling back to Denver for a third meeting with the Broncos. The Chargers and Broncos split the season series with the Chargers winning the last match up at Mile High. The Chargers are on a roll, but I'm going to have to go with Pey-Pey-Broncos.

This is one of those weekends where I almost hope I go 0-4. I really don't care for a single team I picked, but alas, they are the stronger teams going in.  Enjoy your Divisional Playoff Weekend!
